Course Description: The art programrequires students to demonstrate a high degree of self-discipline, responsibility, problem-solving skills, cooperation, and the ability to follow directions and complete assignments in a timely manner. Elementary Art KG through 2nd Grade- Our goal is to offer kindergarten through second grade students enjoyable, rewarding successful art experiences to the students, as well as to encourage leisure time in the arts. The program involves students in solving problems creatively using various two and three dimensional materials and processes: Drawing, Painting, and Design. Students will learn to create art. Students learn how and why people, including artists, create art.
The concepts and skills will help the students: Understand and experiement with various sources of inspiration for creative work, such as nature, the constructed environment, imagination, decoration and the artwork of artists representing various cultures. Develop ideas for expressionin visual form, using visual thinking, creative problem-solving, and an understanding of design elements and principles of art. Use media to create art and unerstand the importance of selecting, controlling and experimenting with various materials, tools and processes. Create two and three dimensional art, and understand that art has personal meaning to the creator.
Art 3rd through 6th Grade - In the third through sixth grades our goal is to continue to solve problems creatively using various two and three dimensional material and processes: Drawing, Painting, Design, and Sculpture. The students will expand and reinforce understanding and awareness of the elements and principles of art; the historical and cultural settings for the arts and respecting cultures. The relationship between the visual arts and other diciplines will be reinforced with reading and weriting assignments.
