In order to implement and maintain an effective classroom management within any class, there must be at least three important aspects present (according to Marzano). First there must be rules and procedures that are clearly defined and exist with the expectation that they will be followed. There must also be disciplinary interventions understood by everyone in the class that are put into effect when the rules and procedures are either not followed, or when they are followed exceptionally well. Finally, and perhaps most importantly the teacher must establish appropriate and compassionate student-teacher relationships in order for the most beneficial learning to 'really" take place.
Classroom Expectation Rules Be Respectful Please Raise Your Hand and Wait to be called on Keep Your Hands, Feet, and Objects to yourself Use kind words
Be Responsible Come to school prepared and ready to learn Think before speaking and acting Accept all consequences for your behavior
These rules will be introduced to the students o the very first day of school and will be posted in the from of the classroom, where they can be easily seen. Because these rules will be so general, more specific rules are covered within each rule. Students will be asked to share what they think the rules mean by giving examples. These rules are effectibve because they are guided by the teacher, but the students will have input and become a part of the rules as well. The participation of what the rules should be will help the students understand what is expected of them in the classroom.
Disciplinary Interventions
Tardies (Building Policy) For tardies, the school policy is in effect. Although there are no consequences for the first 4 tardies to class, I will attempt to notify your parent by phone or email on the 3rd or 4th tardy. Tardies reset at semester.
Make-Up Work The student is responsible to get all missed assignments from the teacher. The student has one day to make up any assignments missed during his or her absence. If tests or quizzes are missed, it is the student’s responsibility to make sure they are made up within one week.
No name papers will be graded as late work if they are claimed. It is your responsibility to find them in the no name box. It is not the responsibility of the teacher to figure out whose paper is anonymous.
